Awesome Documentary

Right now on HBO they are showing something called Autism the Musical. You can access this video by actually going to HBO's website and selectiong documentaries and then this show. I think this is a awesome documentary that really shows what it is like for some parents who have a child w/autism or one that is on the spectrum. I was actually moved to tears several times just on things that were said or done. There are actually a couple of kids who remind me of how E is. If you have HBO it is still playing at different times. Just to let you know if you do watch it beware there are several times when some choice words are said so if you want your children to watch it you may want to watch it first.

Moon Sand

Okay. I don't know if any of you have ever played w/moon sand but one word sums it all up messy! Today E wanted to play w/some that I had bought a while ago. So I said we could. For some reason I was thinking it was supposed to be better than playdough which I guess it can be in the sense that it never dries out. I guess I should have known not to buy anything w/the word sand in it. That stuff is the messiest stuff I have ever seen (well so far any way)!!!

Spring Break

During Spring Break we went to see my big sis, nephew H and my bother-in-law. Here are a few pics of my cutie patootie and my cutie patootie nephew. In one of the pics E is pushing H in a stroller. E kept trying to keep H in the stroller so he could keep pushing him around. He even tried to help change his diaper at one point. Oh and did I mention that everytime we are in a public restroom and there is a changing table he HAS to change a pretend babies diaper. He even fastens the belt strap. And we can't leave until he unclips the belt. Is he trying to tell us something?

The truth or not the truth, what's the difference??

Okay so lately we have been having difficulty teaching E about telling the truth. For instance today as soon as I picked him up from school he says "I got no timeouts". Then his teacher tells me well actually he did sit in time out the first four mintues of recess for talking back. Side note - E's talking about isn't like most kids. He will actually get stuck in this mode where he is basically just repeating stuff that you say back to you and when other kids do it would be considered back talk but it isn't w/him. Point being it gets frustrating b/c you can't get him to quit and so ... if you want to know more I can explain it later okay back to my story - So I said "oh, did you sit in time out?" he says "no" again. Then we proceed to go back and forth about it and I tell him that he has to tell the truth and he always says "I'm not telling the truth". And I say "I know". Although I am now convinced that when he says he is not telling the truth in his mind that processes to he is telling the truth. He just mixes up the words. So we go on for a while about how I know he sat in time out and when I ask he needs to tell me yes b/c that is telling the truth. Well he still didn't get it after like 10 mintues. We have tried in the past to explain this to him but no matter what we say he just doesn't seem to get it. So we figure we might wait a little longer and then try to explain it again. The thing w/E that is interesting is that he is very intelligent but he doesn't really get the common sense part. I have not idea if that has to do w/AS or not but it is like as far as what he knows like facts he is 3 years older than he really is and then things that are like understanding things he is like 2 years younger than he really is. He will get there eventually. In the meantime we just have to keep having patience. Well I should keep on trying to have patience which is very hard at times!

E has a sister?

A few weeks ago J and I went to E's parent teacher conference. While we were there she was showing us this little questionaire test thingy that they ask all of the kids like what is your dads name, moms name, birthday etc. Well he answered them all right until they asked him what is your brother or sisters name? I don't know if they just asked to see what he would say or if they really thought he had one. Well to our surprise he apparently has a sister. In the space for a sibling he had told them Elizabeth. We just laughed and laughed! Elizabeth is actually a really good friend of mine's little girl who is a little bit younger than E. We told her he doesn't have any brothers or sisters. It was so cute!!!

Growing Up

I just enrolled E in kindergarten today! It seems so strange that he should be already old enough to go!!! It makes me realize just how fast he is growing up!! It seems like he should still be 2 or maybe 3.

New Food

Believe it or not E had his first hamburger Friday night. Only it was a sloppy joe. We could never get him to eat anything that resembled a hamburger and the other night I decided to try again and he actually ate part of it. This is a good milestone for him b/c we have the worst time trying to get him to try anything new. Plus most kids by the time they are 5 1/2 have at least had a hamburger, but not our little cutie! Until now. So the next step is to try to get him to try an actual hamburger. I actually got him to drink juice at my dads house as well!

E Cutes

E has a lot of things he calls other things so I wanted to make a list so I wouldn't forget them. The right word will be on the left and what he says will be on the right

Syrup ---- Dezerve
Umbrella ---- Bacheella (at least he used to)
Taco Bell---- Taca Bell
Mozz. Sticks---- Monster Sticks
Propel Water---- Blue Water
McDonald's ---- Old McDonalds

I know there are more I just can't think of them. We try to correct him but he just corrects us back w/the "right" way to say it.

He thinks everyone on an airplane is going to Disneyland. One day he heard a plane and he said "what is that" I said "an airplane" and he said "what are they doing" I said" they are going somewhere" he said "Disneyland". One time when J went on a trip for work E said "Daddy went on an airplane" "he is going to Disneyland". I said "no he wouldn't go to Disneyland w/out you".

Every now and then when E is drawing he will write words and the interesting thing is he will write them backwards. Only he spells them as you would read them from left to right. He usually spells the words right! It is like if he is writing the word baby he would start w/the Y and then B A B. Only when he gets done unless you saw him write it you would think he wrote it the right way. I asked his teacher if we should be worried about this but he doesn't do it all of the time so for now she said not to worry.
